I loved this episode. I really identified with the whole growing into your securities and maturing spiritually being the cause of not feeling as if you were on a constant defense. Thank you for sharing!

Excellent episode. You make some very, very vaild points. Some people seem to get so wrapped up in the cyber end (speaking of fellow pagans, etc) that they forget the whole idea is the actually experience their paths.
My job has me in front of a computer as well as my college night classes requires that. So my "fun" time at a computer is very limited...by choice. Since I am solitary (not by choice!) I love the fact that I can interface with other pagans on Facebook or blogs and have access to great podcasts. But I always make time to go outside, no matter the weather, and absorb my surroundings, listen to the sounds and feel the earth spirits as they work their magic. That's what is most important about my path. Not that others need to emulate, but I think some need to be reminded that the cyber world is a communication tool, it can be magical, it can bring us together, but it is still a box of plastic and wires.
Step outside....

Kveldrida mentioned that I have now had my 15 minutes of fame. I'm thankful for your remembrance. To be honest, I had forgotten about that occurance, now so many years ago. But in hearing it again, I have vague memories of opening a doorway for that lovely old lady. There have been so many others since, I am blessed to live the life that I have. It gave me chills up and down my arms to hear this retelling, as I am sure that I had no prior knowledge of the history of your home.

Life and death are our present and our future. So much fear is conjured in the human heart at the mention of this truth. But as with birth, growth, living, bearing children and moving through the other transitions that life provides. Death is but another transition. I believe this without hesitation. How many before us have moved through these acts and scenes in the play of life, only to feel the petrifying fear of ultimate demise? We are and will be no different...except that we can CHOOSE to accept the natural and harmonious transition to another state of being. We are really "spiritual beings having a human experience"...as the saying goes.

Please know that I love you both...and that my feeling is that you provide an essential service in producing this show. Other peoples' perspectives bring understanding and self-discovery. In this sense, you are both the vehicles of human growth. There is no higher calling. Keep the faith, know that God loves you and please know that you are beautiful in all respects.

Remembering now about an event from so long ago brings me joy. It is a paradox that I should feel that I have grown and changed so much since then yet that I know in my heart, I was at my best in that moment. Life IS wonder. Without wonder, without perspective, we are dead yet still breathing.

Blessed be...Praise the All-Father,

Ivaldi

I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but as a quietly-out Pagan mom of a 4 year old with Catholic family-in-law and Southern Baptist family, this is something I'm trying to work out for myself, and I'm interested to hear other parents' views.

Waiting for "quiet time" on Monday to listen, but wanted to say "thank you" in advance. :) (also, new listener, found you through PPP)

Writing on my phone...errors ahead...
great show and I had to say that I don't think what fox said about gaining weight for the santa persona was strange at all.i remember when my dad was playing santa four the old folks every year he gained ALOT of weight.and when he stopped he lost (with some work) around fifty! It was crazy.all those cookies add up. I personally like the"father christmas"old country type santa .who doesn't seem to need to be over weight. Also have you heard terrance mckenna's take on santa? I like that one a whole lot, when I heard it I think I had a past life regression samewith when the whole krampus thing was uncovered to me.
Best to you all! Keep up the great shows!
Ps. They are making car parts with mushrooms and plant material now! more magic!
Pps. A freind of ours gave us a live christmas tree in a pot this year. It was so awesome. We fed it ice cubes everyday (my son who is 1.5. Loved the "tree-food" too) w are going to invite it back into our house again next year. Of course we don't get the yule log and we don't really save a tree but it was something else ¡! Hard to described. I've always had cut trees and wasn't sure how I would liked this idea.but I really did! Now I want live trees in our house all year round!

I am so glad you mentioned cars. I have always felt a connection, not only to my hobby cars, but my everyday driver.
One day it hit me. 90% of a car is manufactured from metal, which is minerals from rocks, which I feel, as you mentioned, have a spirit all their own.
So it's not so "weird" to think and feel a car has a spirit(s) since it is of an earthly matter.
I recently sent one of my old cars to her final resting place, a friend of mines' junk yard. I felt ok, as it was someone I knew taking her away. And the evening before she left, I sprinkled salt water (made from melted snow, sea salt and charged by the Moon) on her and thanked her for her many, many years of service and fun.

Btw, I love wagons too. Have always had one as my main ride or a hobby car :>)

Peace and Cheers,
Chet

HELLO!!!!

Awesome fantastic supercool news! I finally got my act together, and not only do we now have the second episode up, even after recording it mooooooonths ago, but we are now on iTunes!!! So please subscribe! I will try to suck less and keep them coming out on a regularly scheduled basis. Probably only every 3 mo at first (I don't have a whole lot of bandwith anyhow), but I think every 3 mo will be good for all parties involved.

Hey there!

I really loved this weeks podcast and what you said about music being an important part of ritual. I spend most of my waking hours (when not at work) listening to music and even though my taste is pretty mainstream I am able to find pagan messages or images in most of what I listen to. One of my favourites is a song called All Around Me by a band called Flyleaf, which is a Christian rock band but it does not mention any deity spcifically so I find it fits perfectly with my thoughts of the Goddess. I even have a playlist on my iPod of songs that I dedicate to and can imagine myself singing to the Goddess or I can see her singing to me (Clay Aiken's 'I Will Carry You' being one of them) and when I am having a particularly bad day it makes me feel better to listen to them and strengthen my relationship to the God and Goddess through these songs.

Anyhoo, I finally caught up with all the episodes (Except 3 I cannot get to work) and cannot wait for the next update. I have a request of sorts for a possible topic, that being Pagan names. I have struggled to find my Pagan/Witch name for many years and cant find anything that fits or feels right so I would love to hear how you found your names and what magical techniques to ascribe to, to help find them (Such as Bucklands numerology section in the Big Blue Book saying your magical name should match your birth number and such)

Thank you for a wonderful podcast!
Much Love and many Blessings to you both.

Music, music, music. I love music and this episode was great. Unlike most podcasts, instead of playing the music, you guys discussed the music. Definitely a fresh way to present a podcast about music.

No worries Arrowind, I am about your age and I know exactly who Ella & Gershwin are. I love old jazz standards, big band and classical music – Cab Calloway is one of my favs!

As for Christmas songs changed to pagan lyrics, I actually don’t mind this. It takes a song that I grew up with, gives me words that sound less contrived and allows me to still appreciate the music, without getting my hackles up about the whole “Christmas” story stuff (big issue with me). I'm not a big fan of "this is the story we're selling and you absolutely have to believe it or you're not a good person" crud. Oh, look at that, there go my hackles again...Excuse me while I step of that soapbox. That aside, there are quite a few “Christmas” carols that are actually very pagan or at the very least, about the season instead of religion, without changing any of the currently-used words.

I also enjoyed the discussion about music in rituals. It was spot on.

Anyway, great show as usual.

I’m not a big fan of “this is the story we’re selling and you absolutely have to believe it or you’re not a good person” crud.
Great show guys and I love the guest hosts as usual. :)

Personally, I don't believe in Karma. It makes no sense. The notion that someone, living high on the hog, stepping on everyone to get want they want, with no cares in the world and receiving nothing but rainbows and sunshine purely because they were Gandhi in their last life is completely absurd in my mind.

My belief is that each life is chosen by us, with certain lessons to be learned and taught. Not every twist and turn is fated per se; just the milestones that must be dealt with in some way. This, to me, explains why babies/children die - the lessons they were here for have been learned and their last lesson to us is how to cope with their passing. Everyone always teaches that last lesson to someone.

That's not to say that we all deal with life's lessons the same way. Some deal with it and some clearly don't. But that's part of the lesson...the consequences of those choices. Maybe you had a crappy childhood but that was one of the things you came here to experience. It might have sucked but how you deal with it makes you the individual you are today.

I also believe that Earth is not the only learning environment we have but that is a whole new discussion! :)

Was interesting to hear everyones thoughts on this. I have heard like 3 other podcasts touch on karma recently, so it is something that is being discussed quite a bit right now.
The one thing that is overwhelming consistent with all the views, from this cast ans the others is, everyone pretty much agrees something is going on, but how it works is completely different to each individual.

Personally, I think the life to life karma is unfair and pretty much bull crap. Some schmuck in this life, that is stealing from people and not getting caught (like some over rich CEO) is rolling along because he was a great person in the last. And then his next life (most people don't even have any idea other lives happened) will be totally crappy and they have no idea why. Just doesn't seem right, why would the gods do that???

Good things happen to shitty people and really bad things happen to really cool decent people all the time. Any of us "regular" folks on the street can attest to that.

We are given lessons, we either learn from them life to life or not. It's not a forced senrio, you "listen" to that little voice in your head or you don't. If you are a decent person, hopefully it comes back to you from other people. And if you are nasty, you deserve to get busted and pay the dues because you did not listen to the lesson voice talking to you.

And then, shit happens, things our of our control, just because everyone elses free will is flying around and bumping into us, as well as Mother Natures. We just hope we can dodge some of that and roll along without too many problems, which usually is not the case, cuz life is tough for most of us.

Boils down to, foremost, be decent to other folks, love Mother Earth and all the Gods you prefer, smile when you can and try to make the best you can out of what we have going on here.

Hope this all made sense!

Wow! What a show! The hosts from my two favourite podcasts coming together.

And I think the names "Little Weasel" and definitely "Fluffybunny" should be adopted on a regular basis. :)

In keeping with the theme of the show, it occurred to me that sometimes life throws out these curve balls (ie: the issue with Kveldrida & Oni's apartment) that placed them in the right time/place and shows like this are the result. If that didn't demonstrate the purpose of the show, I don't know what does.

Awesome show guys. I absolutely loved it!

I've been having the WORST time with my son's school this year and decided to make the leap to home school him. He's a twin but his brother has been able to thrive in the public school system. This is something that I always wanted to do with all of my children but wasn't about to do it because I'm a single mother and just couldn't make it happen. I'm ready to take the plunge for this coming school year. Public school is fine for your average child but if your child is slower or faster it's not very friendly. Kudos for the show and just being yourselves!

Feel free to use this email in the show. You two are AWESOME!!! Blessed be!

We had a festival here in MD last year. I seriously thought about going, but a day pass was in the ballpark of $50.00 and it was a bit far from my location. I am thinking I should have gone anyway. I am solitary more out of situation than choice (although I love the freedom I have being alone). Probably why I listen to podcasts and watch pagan Youtube channels, it gives some of us a connection and community feeling that otherwise we would not have at all...

Merry Meet Arrowind & Foxfire and Brightest Blessings to Thunderwolf & Featherwind.
I would just like to say howmuch I have enjoyed this episode, With money being tight at the minute you have given me some great ideas (especially the house cleansing with mirror). I felt so connected when Arrowind said about her using a letter opener as an athem, I have down exactly the same thing and there is a small story I would like to share with you regarding how this tool came to me. About 5 years ago, money was tight as I had been made redundant, but to try and cheer me up my mum had taken me to a craft fair, whilst there we came across a tombola for a local childrens hospice and my mum persuaded me to have a go, I had just enough change in my pocket for 1 ticket but thought that I had nothing to loose and the few coins I had would go towards helping someone, all the prizes had been donated, there were books, chocolates and bottles of wine and all alone at one end of the table was this gilted letter opener (everything around it had been one), anyway I drew my ticket and was congratulated in winning this letter opener, I thought it was pretty with a celtic knot design but thought nothing more of it till I placed my copy of hedge witch next to it, the idea came to me that I had won my Athem with the last few coins I had, it isn't sharp or fancy and I couldn't tell you what it is made of but it works for me and I still use it now. It just feels so right for me and that is all that matters.
Well, thank you for reading my comment and thank you for podcasting, I am nearly caught up with you now (it has taken me weeks to listen to all your casts from the start but I have really enjoyed them all) and looking forward to hearing what you will all get up to next.
Blessed Be
Tilly
PS - You may have already covered this and I have listened to so many but can you go over where you got your names, I love hearing how people come across their names as the stories are all so beautiful.

About 5 years ago, money was tight as I had been made redundant, but to try and cheer me up my mum had taken me to a craft fair, whilst there we came across a tombola for a local childrens hospice and my mum persuaded me to have a go, I had just enough change in my pocket for 1 ticket but thought that I had nothing to loose and the few coins I had would go towards helping someone, all the prizes had been donated, there were books, chocolates and bottles of wine and all alone at one end of the table was this gilted letter opener (everything around it had been one), anyway I drew my ticket and was congratulated in winning this letter opener, I thought it was pretty with a celtic knot design but thought nothing more of it till I placed my copy of hedge witch next to it, the idea came to me that I had won my Athem with the last few coins I had, it isn’t sharp or fancy and I couldn’t tell you what it is made of but it works for me and I still use it now.

Hi Arrowind and Foxfire.
Just wanted to drop a note. Picked up your podcast a few weeks ago (I think it was Tommy Elf that mentioned your show), and it is a great show! I am a parent also, I have a 5 year old special needs child, so my spirituality plays a large part of me trying to help my daughter and also keeping sane in the worldly stresses.
Anyway, loved the "tools" episodes. I myself love my tools, but have been streamlining my celebrations and rituals lately. They had become a bit cumbersome and lengthy. I figured out I did not need to do everything at once, celebrate and enjoy (in my eclectic path, I look to the solstices and equinox's as the major points) and if I need to accomplish casting, etc, I can come back to that later. But with that, I notice I am adding more tools to my practice. Most new ones are not not really working tools (I have my atheme, wand, etc) but I seem to like pieces on my altar (patron reps, etc), some I have made myself and some I have purchased. These things seem to help me focus and connect.
Could I work or connect without them? Sure, I do in my daily life. But there seems to be something about having some of my pieces when I am in a seasonal celebration. And I rotate some depending on the season (by the way. I have a HUGE Santa collection also :>)
Ok, enough rambling, I just downloaded some of your older shows (yes, the Santa one from last Dec!) and look forward to catching up a bit.
Peace and Cheers!

I enjoyed this podcast. I also enjoyed the variety and the shared stories. I would also be interested in sometime hearing about your choice to homeschool and how your faith and religion play into that if at all.

I've been listening to your podcast for a while and as much as I enjoy it, I do have one (minor) gripe. I would love to see links to your podcasts of the week. I was a bit behind and listening to several podcasts at once while away from my computer. You talked about one that I wanted to check out and I couldn't find it later. Other than that, keep up the great work!

first of all, my cat always gets confused when he hears the bells chime at the beginning of each podcast.

I loved this podcast. I have been getting really amused lately with the idea of what I'm going to tell my children, one day, about Santa. Living in America, with Christian parents, a Jewish mother (me) and a Freethinker father (the most likely father of my children) makes the concept of raising children in a single religion home pretty impracticable. But I don't want to take Santa away from my kids if all their friends get to celebrate Santa, and let's face it, my entire family are going to encourage Santa on them, so why should I deny them this. Yet at the same time, I'm too smart to make us silly excuses about what all these Yule celebrations have to do with Christmas. So how do I explain to my kids that St. Nick is one guy who comes and fills shoes with candy on his feast day on the 6th, and Santa is actually Father Christmas, or the Holly King, and you can celebrate that on Yule or Christmas, and in some countries there's an elf that comes, and some its the Three Kings and they come on the Equinox, and some its a Witch ::pant pant::

Anyhow, this episode amused me, enlightened me, and gave me a neat insight to what 'new age' parents do when discussing such things with their kids.

Also, Christ is actually Greek for the Hebrew Moshiach(Messiah), which means 'one who is annointed'. It would refer to a king, but king in Hebrew would actually be 'melech'. Your argument is perfectly safe, I just had to correct the linguistics.

Just listening to your top five books episode, and I couldn't agree more with Heinlein's Stranger in a Strangeland being in the top 5. For me it is an annual read and a book I try to encourage everyone to read at least once in their life.

Hi guys!

First of all, I'm sorry this is a comment on an old show! I feel bad about it but hey, I just remembered that I hadn't said anything about it to you so I thought I'd mention it.

When Foxfire mentioned that all the Aquarians he'd met had been very spiritual people, I heard it loud and clear. I myself am an Aquarian, my sister is an Aquarian, and also her boyfriend is an Aquarian, and despite our younger ages (20, 26 and 27) I've found we can have some highly intellectual conversations. All three of us are highly spiritual people, and in fact every other Aquarian that I have known has been similar. I don't know what it's attributed to, but I've also found Aquarians to be kind of the kookier ones in the Zodiac - we'd almost be the 'hippies' :P

I love the show guys, keep it up :D

Brightest Blessings,

Good 'cast, folks. :) It actually -did- make sense and mirrors much of my own feelings and experiences in my Pagan community.

Unfortunately, the changing attitude towards new folks in Paganism and Wicca (as well as similar pagan-related paths) has made it more difficult for people to find acceptance or feel as though they are welcome. Some of this is also due to the rising amount of people who are involved in Paganism because it is 'cool', which seems to turn more established Pagans off towards -anyone- who is new. The wrong attitude, to be sure, but I have seen it happen. (I have also, at times, felt this way myself. Needing to have serious discussions on spiritual topics and only finding newbies who don't want to talk about spirituality, or have no idea what I'm needing to talk about.)

I would love to have the experience of walking through a gathering and feel free and accepted, and wish it happened more often these days.

Anyway, great podcast!
Blessings to you folks and your kids!
